Hotel housekeeping is a very ordinary job. Housekeepers are busy working in the hotel doing repetitive and inconspicuous chores to keep a comfortable environment for the guests. No one bothers to stop and pay attention. Inside every guest room, there is a Guest Comment on which guest can write their opinions and suggestions for improvement. On day, a story caught my eyes.
I checked into West International Trade Hotel on Sep, 10th, 2010, which was my second time staying here. I was feeling uncomfortable because of the cold I caught the day before, so I went to bed as soon as I arrived in the afternoon, completely unaware of the time. It was only when someone knocked at the door for room service did I wake up and find out I missed dinner. I opened the door and said hello to a medium-height girl, who came in for the turn-down service. She finished her work in no time.
As she was about to leave, she looked at me and hesitated for a moment before asking, “Sir, are you feeling ill?”
Being sick and alone in an unfamiliar city, I felt touched by other’s care, and said, “It’s ok, just a cold”.
She left quietly. A few minutes later, I was surprised by another knock at the door. As I opened the door, it was her again followed by a male attendant. She had the medicine in hands while the male attendant held a covered dish. She smiled, "I’m sorry. Here is some medicine and the noodles I took the liberty to order for you. I hope you don’t mind.” I was really touched by what happened that night. As I ate the steaming noodles, I felt as if I were at home.
As I’m about to leave after I’ve finished my work in Beijing, I’ve decided to write this story down to express my sincere gratitude. Thank you for giving me the warm feeling of being at home while I’m in another city.
